Toto Wolff: "Only two drivers have not called me"

Mercedes boss Toto Wolff has revealed that most of the grid has been in contact with him regarding Nico Rosberg's vacant seat.

Rosberg opted to walk away from Formula One last week following his title triumph, sparking a number of rumours over who would replace him.

Now Wolff has said that only two drivers in the field haven't expressed an interest in driving for the Silver Arrows.

"Only two drivers have not called me: Daniil Kvyat and Kimi Raikkonen," he said.

"Everyone else has, including Pastor Maldonado. Even drivers who have contracts."

But Wolff added: "I do not intend to interfere with the internal affairs of Ferrari, and I don't know whether Sebastian is seriously interested in a change."

At the Ferrari world finals event in Daytona, Sebastian Vettel played down the possibility of him moving to Mercedes.

"Kimi and myself both have a contract so it should be clear," he insisted.

And Wolff appears to have ruled out poaching a big name driver from another team.

"Why should Ferrari or McLaren be without Vettel and Alonso in December?" he said.

"Or Williams with Valtteri Bottas? This third path that I have described is therefore in last place with me."

    i have to be honest: I can´t imagine Vettel calling Toto. I always thought Vettel is there where he always wanted to be.. So i think Toto is just saying more than maybe was..

    ...Plus, if you read the previous story where "the RB drivers are not interested in a Merc drive", this story doesn't add up either. Someone is not telling the truth!

      I probably trust Toto more on this. It wouldnt look good for Red Bull if their drivers openly said that they look at a Mercedes seat. As for how many where genuinly interested, we can only speculate.

    The key words "haven't expressed an interest". Doesn't say for 2017 only. It's quite possible they have said, my current contract ends 2018 so you can have me then..... In a request they only contract a driver for 1 year.
