Carey: Ferrari to be treated like all other teams

Formula 1 CEO Chase Carey says that Ferrari will not be given special treatment as the sport moves forward. In 2017, Liberty Media presented manufacturers with its plans for the next set of engine regulations, which are due to come into play in 2021.
However, the ideas were not well received by the Italian marque, with Ferrari president Sergio Marchionne threatening to quit F1 if he was to feel as though it was heading in the right direction. Carey has stood his ground, insisting the terms are non-negotiable.
"Ferrari has a unique importance and is a legend, but it must be treated like all the other teams," Carey told Corriere della Sera. "We want them to remain part of the category -- we want to change the sport for the better, not change the teams.
"Agreements can be reached, but the main objective is non-negotiable: the interest of the fans comes first. We have to improve the show we offer on the track. The aerodynamics do not help and I am told that it is also a problem of some of the circuits."
It's been over 12 months since Carey took the reigns of Formula 1, replacing longtime supremo Bernie Ecclestone. The American admits that he is satisfied with the job he has done so far: "In the beginning, the priority was to look at the organisational parts, and we did that," he said.
"Then we wanted to give a fresh air to the environment, as only negative things were being heard -- like when Bernie said he would not spend money to watch a race. Now everything is more open, there is a lot of social activity, ticket prices have gone down and we have created entertainment areas for the fans. All that accelerates the change," he said.

Yeah, reduce the influence of Ferrari and Mercedes. Its about time F1 doesnt spoil the bigger teams. Now I understand why we need historic teams and why we give them more money, but the raw amount of privilegues Ferrari has had is making this SJW truly triggered... and Im not even an actual SJW... Wouldnt work well with my trade...

I work at a blood central. And if we were SJWs, we would have donours with too small veins for our needles, plasma from women directly to patients (not a good idea, since most female plasma has more antibodies compared to male plasma), and as the only male I would automatically be getting a high position as means of gender quotation.

Finally someone had the balls to say it and at least show intent. Ferrari right grip on Bernies balls is part of what hampered F1 progress over the last decade.

Bearing in mind Ferrari has the financial support of Fiat, always gets the most sponsorship money because of their brand, I think they have enough advantage.The won't leave, imagine how it would look if they left, just because they aren't paid extra to compete.

I think they are arrogant enough to leave because they are no longer granted unfair advantage. However, I think they won't because it would be bad for business. As much as Marchionne tries to wash down the brand to serve shareholders, Ferrari is a Formula 1 team that happens to make road cars. Not the other way around. That's the whole aura of the brand. Without Formula 1 they would be a bit more like Lamborghini, Aston Martin, or Porsche. I don't think Italian fans would take it well either.

All your american fanboys here should not be allowed comment on any sport events that has the gens from history in europe. Why you not just keep focus on your own shit sport and the circus they present. Was a sad day when Bernie sold out to Liberty..FM1 never needed USA and vice versa. boxing promotors just say it all..:)

American viewership are shitheads true. They still don't care about F1 but the Bernie cancer had to go. When that geezer pos dies it would be a good day for the planet.

No team should be given any preference, even historic ones. Under Bernie the cartel was running strong. If this results in Ferrari and Mercedes being booted out, so be it. But make no mistake, F1 without Ferrari will have huge financial downsides to the sport, don't be naive into thinking otherwise. People think of Ferrari the most when it comes to F1, even more than any iconic driver. That's the reality.

Their sales of cars is based on marketing in F1, it's in their annual report, they rely on F1 as their main marketing platform and for mass publicity of all teams can't afford to leave, they won't be going anywhere of all the teams, they will be last to leave. The just acting like all spoilt brats - when you tell them what they don't want to hear!!
