Porsche waiting on engine rules before deciding on F1 project

Porsche is considering entering formula one in 2021. That is the view of F1 legend Gerhard Berger, who is now the boss of the German touring car series DTM.
Recently, footage emerged of Porsche's successful attempt to unofficially break the F1 circuit record at Spa-Francorchamps with its modified Le Mans car. It is just more evidence that the German carmaker is eyeing F1's proposed engine rule changes for 2021.
"Porsche is thinking about a formula one entry for 2021," Berger told Auto Bild. "They are just waiting for the new engine regulations, which should be published in May, and then will decide," he added.
F1 owner Liberty Media's sporting boss Ross Brawn said the sport would welcome Porsche to the grid. "We want to have big names like Porsche in formula one and are creating the environment for it," he said.

I think Porsche is one of the most likely candidates to enter the grid and make a serious entry.

...and even further, V.A.G. cannot possibly stand idle for long, from a motorsport marketing standpoint. They cannot have 4 historical Formula1 marques under their umbrella and not have one of them racing. I'm sure they realize they have capital cost wrapped up in their LMP tech programs that still need to be amortized. Audi, Porsche, or Lamborghini, please!

For all the talk they have about other series, F1 is the pinnacle of motorsport still, the unchallenged king, and for VW and their likes to now have an entry is a pity, and a loss both for them and us. The same goes for the likes of Toyota, Ford and so on. Its probably one of the three, but I think Porsche is more likely.

As a ‘new’ entrant from scratch or as a ‘buy-in’ (Force India?) or Williams even?

Either buy-in works team or engine supplier, I think. It makes little sense to start up new, if there are teams like Force India, almost literally begging to be purchased.

This is why I don't even worry about Ferrari threatening to leave. I'll take Porsche, Aston Martin, Lamborghini, Audi, or a combination of any of those over Ferrari with strings attached any day. Let them leave if it's all in the name of make F1 more fair, entertaining, and competitive

Thank god someone who thinks the same as me !!!!
If it makes the sport fair, then go on. What can't be permitted is that Ferrari has the last word in the rule making.
I would love the idea of Porsche entering F1 and btw one name I would like to see back is BMW.

You'd likely not mind, but many would, and Ferrari would lose a valuable place for marketing, and F1 would lose their most famous brand. It'd be a pretty bad exit. I could do without Ferrari's politics, but lets be real here: these are business people. Get some out, and just others will flock to replace them. I do however think its sound that Liberty is trying to reduce the power of Ferrari and the likes.
