Calderon, Mawson secure GP3 deals

Tatiana Calderon is moving to Jenzer for the 2018 GP3 season, her third in the series.The 24-year-old switches to the Swiss outfit after completing Abu Dhabi’s post-season testing with it last December, having 61 laps with its Dallara machinery after one previous day with class leaders ART.

Calderon has raced 33 times so far in the category, claiming four points-scoring finishes.The Colombian started her GP3 career at Arden two years’ ago, with 10th-place results at Germany and Italian feature races, before going to DAMS in 2017.

“I’m extremely happy to be racing with Jenzer in GP3 this year,” Calderon said.“They have a great history in the series: last year they had a really successful season and everything went really well when I tested with them last year.

“I like the way they work, and I think together we can make a great combination and be very competitive.“I’ve also been working really hard during the winter to be as ready as possible, and I want to be challenging the front-runners.”

Andreas Jenzer Said “I was hoping to sign Tatiana back in 2016 when she tested for us for the first time because we knew we would have a very competitive team,” he said.

“Now I am very happy Tatiana joins us for the 2018 campaign.“I am sure with her experience she will be able to contribute to the technical and driving sides.”

Rookie Joey Mawson has joined Arden for his GP3 debut in the 2018 season, The Australian makes the step up from the Formula 3 European Championship, and becomes just the second racer from his country to compete in the category after Mitchell Gilbert, who drove for Trident and Carlin in 2014 and 2015.

Mawson claimed one podium in 30 races for Van Amersfoort in 2017, finishing third at the Nurburgring alongside 13 other points finishes.He also claimed 15 victories for the Dutch outfit in the ADAC Formula 4 Championship, finishing third overall in 2015 before winning the drivers’ championship two years’ ago.

The 21-year-old has also finished as runner-up in the BRDC Formula 3 Autumn Trophy and MRF Challenge.“It’s great news that Joey has joined Arden for the 2018 season,” team manager Richard Dent said.“This is a fantastic addition to the team this year and his career results have been impressive.”

Mawson added that he was relishing the opportunity to visit the same tracks as F1 countryman Daniel Ricciardo: “To be able to race on the same schedule as F1 is something that I’m thoroughly looking forward to,” he said.“I’m focused on putting everything that I learnt into practice to assist me in gaining more success in 2018.”
