The McLaren team is currently having a disastrous season. They are only able to manage to keep Manor behind in the championship.
In the past the Woking team has won many titles and victories with the likes of Lewis Hamilton, Mika Häkkinen, Ayrton Senna da Silva, Alain Prost and many more big names.
Currently they are lagging behind, this largely due to the weak Honda engine.
The Japanese-made V6 is lacking in both power and reliability, the ICE is down on power compared to the likes of Mercedes, Ferrari and even Renault, the MGU-K and MGU-H are rumoured to be the weakest part of the Honda package. A lethal combination. McLaren boss Ron Dennis had expected much more from the reunion with Honda, but the first year since the return of the Japanese car manufacturer turns out to be a big deception.
This interview dates from 2014. Dennis talks to Sky Sports reporter and former driver Martin Brundle about the possible arrival of Alonso to the team. Also is Dennis saying that the new engine is "a piece of jewellery" and that Honda is much further in their development than they expected. In hindsight we can say these expectations are not met.

And from this we can learn that it is a lot better to be pessimistic than to brag about how quick one will be right off the bat.
