Daniil Kvyat's future in F1 is not as secure as that of his current Toro Rosso teammate Carlos Sainz. It is believed Sainz is on the cusp of having a one-year contract extension triggered by Toro Rosso owner Red Bull, even though the Spanish daily Marca reports that Renault is also interested in the 21-year-old. "He deserves a better seat," Livio Oricchio, a respected Brazilian correspondent, is quoted as saying by another Spanish sports daily, AS.
But while Sainz is weighing up between Toro Rosso and Renault, the fate of his Toro Rosso teammate Daniil Kvyat is much less clear. Earlier, the young Russian was demoted by Red Bull in favour of Max Verstappen, and now there are rumours Kvyat, 22, is looking around for a seat for 2017. "At the moment I have nothing in this area to report," he told the Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf. "But everyone talks to one another. My phone is always on," said Kvyat.
Awkwardly for Kvyat, his career has always been guided by Red Bull, but the goings-on of 2016 have created a rift. "I'm still friends with Helmut Marko and Christian Horner," he insists, "although things are somewhat different. I have people around me who can help me, for the details. But my phone is mine and I can make my own decisions," Kvyat added.
For now, Kvyat said he is determined to make the most of the remaining 13 races of 2016 with Toro Rosso. "There are some real classics coming up where it will become clear how good we really are. I don't call it a deadline but it's an important point," he said. (GMM)

I hope Kvyat finds his mojo back. In principal he's a vastly superior racer to Sainz. His lack of pace relative to Ricciardo got him demoted. But I doubt that Marko would suspect Sainz would score more points in his place. Or now be able to do the job Kvyat did last season (2nd year in F1). Yes, Kvyat was "always" outpaced by Ricciardo races that were probblem-free, but he did have races where not many would have done any better. Like Spa 2015. Would Sainz pull off such a race in those cirstances with the same experience? I would bet a lot against it. Max still looked better that race, trailing Kvyat in a slower car on less ideal strategy, but still Kvyat did something few others would manage. And we've never seen anything close to that from Sainz. For this reason I hold Kvyat in high regard, but his pure pace seems less reliable to say the least. A slow driver (or car setter upper) can still be an amazing racer though. Think Irvine, Berger. Often outlassed by now legendary team mates, but always ready to step up when their team mates wrecked it. I think Kvyat is such a driver, at least in the making. Sainz need to show that potential soon, and no-one is suspecting him to be of Ricciardo-level. Well, maybe the press.

We can cherry pick results to suit a view. Fact is they are all hype, Max, Sainz, Kvyat all hype kids. Kvyat's hype just fell, Max is another who is getting dismantled by Ricciardo. Sainz is also hype.
Ricciardo is the one constant and he simply much better. Ricciardo though himself not anything special when compared to drivers like Vettel, in 2014 he had two wins to his name only through SCD flukery so that isn't saying much about the hype kids.
