Alexander Rossi has said that he expects his Formula One chances to receive a boost after winning the fabled Indianapolis 500 earlier this year.
Rossi made the switch back to his homeland after loosing his Manor F1 seat and currently competes full time in the Verizon IndyCar series for Andretti Herta Autosport with Curb Agajanian.
A move to IndyCar was unexpected for the Californian, however, who had been expected to race for Manor in F1 this year.
"Manor and I, we've had a relationship since 2014 and it was kind of a surprise to all of us I wasn't racing this year," Rossi, 24, told USA Today.
While serving as Manor's official reserve driver, Rossi currently sits seventh in the IndyCar points standings, having struggled to make it into the top ten for most of the season.
A shock win at May's 100th running of the Indianapolis 500 though proved to be not just the highlight of his season, but the highlight of his entire career to date.
"I think what happened after the 500 was my stock value as a racing driver changed dramatically on both sides," said Rossi.
But despite winning American open-wheel racing's crown jewel event, Rossi admits he is still looking at F1.
"There's obviously been discussions [with Manor] about the future," he admits. "I'm definitely deciding between formula one and Indycar."
"There are things about Formula 1 that I miss," he said. "That's what I grew very accustomed to the last six years of my life."
