Antonio Giovinazzi credits KFC chief for rise

Antonio Giovinazzi has said that his rise up the motorsport ranks is down to Ricardo Gelael.

The boss of Indonesia's KFC empire, who is reportedly nin talks to purchase Manor, has backed Giovinazzi's career from the beginning, and has also been a prominent Formula Three sponsor for a number of years.

"It's true, without him nothing would have been possible," Giovinazzi admitted. "I would have stayed a kart driver. But I was sent to be a tutor of his son, we became friends, and since then he has always supported me."

Giovinazzi will spend 2017 as Ferrari's reserve driver having finished runner up to PREMA team mate Pierre Gasly in GP2 this year - his first season in the category.
