Alonso explains why he thinks Kubica is "the best"

Fernando Alonso has been a long time fan of Robert Kubica. In 2011, the Spaniard labelled Kubica as the best racing driver in the world after the Pole was forced to pull out of the upcoming F1 season due to injury.

The 32-year-old has just one victory to his name but is highly rated by fellow drivers and motor racing fans. Winning his only race in Canada 2008, the Pole raced with BMW Sauber for three full seasons before a move to Renault in 2010. Set to race again for the French team in 2011, Kubica suffered a horrific injury at a rally, forcing him to pull out of F1.

Last month, Kubica completed a test with Renault in Valencia sparking rumours that he is ready to return to the pinnacle of motorsport. While Renault has played it down, it has got the fans talking. Alonso also reproduced his statements about Kubica and why he believes he is the best.

"I'll think because he won all the smaller categories," Alonso said. "When the go-karts were the same, when the smaller categories, you run with the same single-seater, with the same car, he was beating all the generation that are winning now. So I think he's the best.

"I would be happy to see him back in Formula 1 but I don't know exactly the situation, I only read that he did the test, but I also read that Renault were not considering him for next year. So I guess it's not that close that he will come back."
