Ramirez: "Grid girl ban is discrimination against women"

Former McLaren team coordinator Jo Ramirez has slammed Liberty Media's decision to ban grid girls. Throughout the 80s and 90s, the now 76-year-old Mexican was a leading figure in F1.

Ramirez now hits out at Liberty's decision to ban grid girls, replacing them with 'grid kids' from 2018. "F1 is losing its way. They try to change something for the sake of changing," he told Spanish radio Cadena Cope.

"It would have been enough to dress them a little more modestly but in many countries they were wearing the national costume," he added. "This (ban) is a discrimination against women -- tomorrow they will be prohibited from coming into the circuit altogether. In my opinion, the grid girls offended no one," said Ramirez. (GMM)

    Bullshit, the girls were there only as eye candy because you know sex sells. It has nothing to do with helping women other than objectifying women. That's like saying we need to start a mass scale prostitution business because it helps women get jobs. Bullshit.

    How about these fuckwits STFU and give capable women a fair break at an F1 race seat? That will bring more bums on the seat and more interest than lousy gird girls.

    Too many perverts everywhere alone their hands because they can't get it on with real women.

      Calling Jo Ramirez a 'fuckwit' You obviously have no REMOTE CLUE who Jo is, the guy is an absolute legend and titan of F1. by all means disagree with him but leave your insults at home sonny boy.

      and there has been women in F1 (three I believe) and if an upcoming woman was good enough, she would certainly earn a seat in F1.

      and that's the hypocrisy of those that complain about feminists that get easily offended, and the turn around and call this "discrimination" and make ridiculous claims "they will be prohibited from coming into the circuit altogether." Perhaps Jo Ramirez can only see this situation through the lens of Mexican culture, where so many women (especially outside of Mexico City) are subject to men, or shamelessly objectified with no opposition.

    Pit girls are not stopping "capable woman of getting a fair break at an F1 race seat"!.

    I like to see more woman in all facet of F1, driver, engineer, mechanic, pit crew, commentator, race official, team owner AND yes pit girl. The more the better!

    Such individual outcomes are not mutually exclusive!
