Max Verstappen 'angry' about reaction Sebastian Vettel

Max Verstappen has admitted that the reaction of journalists to Sebastian Vettel's messy French grand prix made him "angry".

In the official post-race press conference at Paul Ricard, the Red Bull driver told reporters: "I think next time you see Seb you should ask him to change his style.

"Because honestly, it's not acceptable. That's what they said to me at the beginning of the season."

Verstappen clarified that he was not being actually critical of Vettel, saying the German "shouldn't do anything" to change in the wake of Paul Ricard.

The 20-year-old said he was only "angry" with journalists.

"I hope that in Spielberg they will ask Seb if he intends to change his approach to racing," Verstappen said.

"Everyone makes mistakes, even the best. But it makes me angry that they do not speak about him as badly as they spoke about me," he added.

"I was constantly harassed by those stupid questions. It's good that everything is back in order now," Verstappen said after finishing on the podium in France.

    Love how this has become. Thing now as well.

    Let me say that this is probably a bit of a language barrier since some people didn't get. In dutch this form of sarcasm is very common in use. However if you translate that to another language it can be misinterpreted. That is probably also why Vettel, confronted with out of context quotes, responded the way he did.

      I meant he hasn’t earned over time the benefit of a doubt like the more fabled drivers. He wants the same treatment for free. If you s*** the guys d***, please do it at least with your eyes opened, to see what’s going on.

      I think the mere fact that somebody makes it to F1, and stays there several seasons, makes them ' somebody' in the sport.
      What people see as arrogance is the result of articles like this, I m sure he listens to criticism and advice from people in the know (he answers to General Helmut after all), just not to endless bashing from the press. I can't really think of an instance where he was downright arrogant to be honest.
      Ps, all this 'Shit, Dick and Ass' belongs in the bathroom, not on a public forum - just my opinion

      Verstappen showed on many occasions exceptional skill. He actually schooled the entire field in Brazil. He doesn't need to win races and worthless championships in the fastest car without competition, to prove something. Maybe just for people like you, who probably would write the same nonsense about Senna, after he arrived in F1.

      That's the price F1 has to pay, when they attract the masses instead of real racing fans.

      Vitantonio Liuzzi made into F1, stayed a couple of seasons, but he was not a somebody in the sport.

      And I bet Verstappen wouldn’t say no to the most potent car to win without competition. It’s in every driver DNA to ake for that.

      Imo, as a fan of exuberant racing, Verstappen is Montoya 2.0. Very fast, bold and outspoken, challenging the established drivers to make a name for himself. But to be more than that, you need wins and championships, only the you become a “Somebody”.

      I m sorry but I think we have a different opinion on ' being somebody ' in motorsport.
      To make it to the top 20/25 drivers that get to drive in the pinnacle of motorsport in any given year, I take my hat off. Sure some are there because they have a fat wallet, but they generally don t last. VER is there to stay, I can tell you that much.

      He lashed out at the media, because he does not receive the same media treatment as Seb. And I said that he has to go a long way before he gets the media to actually believe he’s more than just a flamboyant, borderline reckless fast driver. When he’ll reach racing maturity, after actually winning something, the media will have more respect towards him like with Alonso, Kimi, Ham, Seb. Now’s to early to claim that level of respect, even for his talent.
