Racing Point says it is planning to introduce a major car upgrade at the German Grand Prix later this year.
The upgrade will transform the RP19 into an "almost new car" as it targets improvements in the midfield, according to its technical director Andy Green.
After the opening five races in the 2019 season, Racing Points sits fifth in the constructors' standings, scoring points at every race except last time out in Barcelona.
Racing Point team principal Otmar Szafnauer described the upcoming update as "a big one", as the team shifts its aerodynamic philosophy.
"This is a big one," Snafnauer said. "And the aerodynamic philosophy changes as well, so it's a big thing."
Szafnauer denies that making such a major change to its aerodynamics is a big risk: "It's not a risk, no, I think other people are already doing what we're trying to do.
"A lot of things will change, it's a big mass flow-rate of air change. Directionally it's the right thing, and it's something that will also continue to help improve the car forever."
Changes an answer to tracks like Barcelona
Green added that the alterations and upgrades to the car will be made to address the problems that have been hampering Racing Point at tracks such as Barcelona.
"It's a difficult circuit for us with respect to the balance of the car that we've had recently," he said. "I'm talking over the last few years, it's something we haven't been able to address fully for a while.
"But we have some new parts coming, almost a new car coming, before the summer shutdown. Hopefully, we'll address some of the issues that we tend to have at this type of circuit.
"It's just the length of the corners. In a 180-degree corner, we tend to use too much of the tyres, we can't keep a good balance for the whole of the corner.
"You can have a good balance in the middle of the corner, or the beginning of the corner, or the end of the corner, but we can't go from beginning to end with a good balance."
