Sergio Perez says he may be tempted to take part in the 24 Hours of Le Mans later in his career after his Formula 1 adventure ends.
Perez, who is currently in his ninth season of F1, recently discussed what awaits him when he decides to call time on his driving days in F1.
The Mexican says he plans to return to his home country for a couple of years before making a choice to race again or not, depending on how much he misses it.
"I'll see, I've been racing since I was six years old," Perez said. "I imagine it would be very hard to stop after Formula 1. But I will try to take some time with my family, I've been out of Mexico since I was 14.
"I will take a year or two to see if I miss it, and if I don't that's it. If I miss it, I'll be very interested in Le Mans and then we'll see. You never know what the future holds."
Perez impressed by Patricio O'Ward
Perez's compatriot Patricio O'Ward is currently taking part in the NTT IndyCar Series, impressing many with his racecraft in the US.
Perez admits that he hopes O'Ward can make the journey from IndyCar to Formula 1, as the 20-year-old recently signed onto Red Bull's junior programme.
"I think he's been doing very good in IndyCar since his debut," Perez stated. "He's surprised a lot of people. I know him, he's a great kid with a big future ahead of him.
"I think so and I hope so," Perez added on the possibility of O'Ward coming to F1. "For him, it would be great to come into Formula 1. It would make me very happy."
IndyCar not a future option for Perez
Perez denied that he could potentially go the other way and make the trip to IndyCar after F1, stating the danger of the series is a turn-off.
This week, former F1 driver Max Chilton stepped down from competing on ovals for the rest of the year, believed to be related to not feeling safe racing on them.
"I wouldn't [go to IndyCar], I think if you don't start there then it's very hard," Perez said. "They have some fantastic races like the Indy [500], but the oval races, I'm not a fan of them.
"I think it's too much risk. For example, I've seen what has happened to Robert Wickens. A little contact here and there can do a lot of damage to you.
"If you grow up with those tracks... for me to go back there and do a full season of IndyCar is very unlikely."
Perez didn't deny the possibility of moving to Formula E, as he notices many major world manufacturers joining the all-electric category which is currently in its fifth season.
"It's early to say, but it's a championship that's growing a lot. I've not followed it that much, but it's the championship that is growing the most.
"A lot of manufacturers are coming in, so maybe by the time I'm finished in F1, FE will be a lot bigger and very interesting."
