Antonio Giovinaazzi takes championship lead after Malaysia win

Antonio Giovinazzi has taken the lead of the GP2 standings after winning the feature race in Malaysia.

Giovinazzi, who started second, closed down Sergey Sirotkin and passed him on lap 27 to take victory. Taking the final spot on the podium was Norman Nato.

Fourth was Alex Lynn followed by compatriot Jordan King. Sixth was Rafaelle Marciello who led the race in the early laps. Luca Ghiotto finished in seventh followed by Mitch Evans.

Gustav Malja came home in ninth and taking the final point was Sergio Canamasas.

The biggest loser in the race was Pierre Gasly who started on pole position. His race started badlly as he dropped to tenth after the first lap and then pitted early.

His out of sync pit-stop meant that his tyres dropped away before the end of the race and he failed to score any points, finishing in eleventh.

The result sees Giovinazzi take the championship lead in what has been his rookie season in GP2.
