Trident Racing signs 17-year old Antonio Spavone

Trident Racing are proud to confirm that Antonio Spavone, one of the best young talents in Italy will drive for the team this season. Spavone will enter the 2012 GP3 Series alongside the already confirmed Vicky Piria.

The Napoli-based racer, whose only 17, made his way in open-wheel competition in the 2010 Italian Formula Abarth Championship. After having built valuable experience at European level, he's now ready to take the next step in his racing career. Antonio has decided to join Trident Racing after making a strong impression in the latest test at Estoril.

The GP3 Series will be back on-track on March 12 and 13 at Barcelona, for another 2-day test in order to get team and drivers in-shape for the start of the 2012 season. The last session before the championship's kick-off will then be at Silverstone.

Antonio Spavone: Of course I'm incredibly happy to have this great chance in such an important series like GP3. After the first test at Estoril the support I hoped for finally materialized. As I had been really satisfied with the job done with Trident Racing in Portugal, it's been a logical step for me to sign with them for a full-time assault. I know there will be plenty of work to do and I'll face some very experienced drivers. My goal is to clinch a top-10 spot as fast as possible. I expect to grow stronger at each race and battle for points in the second half of the championship."

Spavone is about to line-up for the first time in a top international series and his arrival is further confirmation of the team's intention to contribute to the development of new Italian drivers, as he'll join Vicky Piria. Antonio made a great impression in the pre-season test at Estoril, intergrating with the whole team and progressively adapting to a new car.
