Buemi bevestigd als racecoureur bij Toro Rosso

Scuderia Toro Rosso heeft de eerste coureur voor het komende seizoen bevestigd. Zoals verwacht is er een racestoeltje gereserveerd voor Sebastien Buemi. De Zwitser maakt op 29 maart zijn racedebuut in de Formule 1. Wie zijn teamgenoot wordt, is nog onduidelijk.

Teambaas Franz Tost verwelkomt zijn nieuwste aanwinst. “We zijn verheugd dat Sebastien zich bij ons team voegt. Onze engineers waren onder de indruk van de snelheid en de leercurve die hij tijdens tests liet zien. Dat in combinatie met enkele indrukwekkende prestaties in de GP2 overtuigden ons om hem een racezitje aan te bieden. Zijn aanstelling voldoet ook aan de wens van Dietrich Mateschitz (Red Bull-baas, red.) om Scuderia Toro Rosso te gebruiken als opleidingsteam voor jonge talenten.”

Buemi: “Ik ben vanzelfsprekend zeer blij dat ik voor Scuderia Toro Rosso ga racen. Sinds ik begon met racen is de Formule 1 mijn doel geweest. Ik ga dit jaar alles doen om de best mogelijke resultaten te behalen en Red Bull te laten zien dat hun vertrouwen in mij niet ongegrond is. Ik wil Red Bull in ieder geval bedanken voor deze kans en alle hulp die ze mij sinds 2005 geven.”
