Race in China te vroeg afgevlagd door misverstand

Een misverstand tussen Charlie Whiting van de internationale autosportbond FIA en de lokale wedstrijdleider Zhuang Tao lag ten grondslag aan het te vroeg afvlaggen van de Grand Prix van China. De finishvlag werd al na ronde 55 gezwaaid in plaats van na 56 ronden pas.

Daardoor moest de FIA de uitslag bijstellen. Auto Motor und Sport ging op onderzoek uit om de oorzaak te achterhalen. Het Duitse magazine bericht dat Zhuang Tao enkele ronden voor het einde aan Whiting vroeg of hij een witte vlag moest uithangen om aan te geven dat de laatste ronde aanbrak. Het antwoord van Whiting luidde: "No flag." De Chinese official heeft het woord 'no' waarschijnlijk niet gehoord of verkeerd begrepen.

    Ik kreeg het idee dat de hele organisatie daar een puinhoop was, alsof het hun eerste race betrof.

      Dat wordt dan een lastige discussie. Ze hebben namelijk gewoon 56 ronden gereden en Daniel zat 1.2 sec achter Alonso. De officiële uitslag is nu een ronde terug. Alonso 3,5 sec voor Daniël.

      Het had pas echt leuk geweest als Daniel in de 56ste ronde wel voorbij Alonso was gekomen.

      "No flag." De Chinese official heeft het woord 'no' waarschijnlijk niet gehoord of verkeerd begrepen. = "now flag" Is het geluid van de F1 toch nog te luid.

      Ah. het was “No flag now”. Tja leestekens spreken we niet uit :-)
      Geen vlag nu wordt dan "No, flag now" > Nee, nu vlaggen!

      Voor zover mij bekend is alleen Kobayashi / Caterham benadeeld door deze actie... Die ging namelijk in de laatste ronde (nummer 56) voorbij aan Bianchi, maar dat bleek achteraf de 1e uitloopronde.
      Gelukkig ging dat om een plek die waarschijnlijk niet heel belangrijk is, na de 13e plekken die al gehaald zijn in de afgelopen races.
