Geen steun voor test na het seizoen in Abu Dhabi

Pirelli heeft geen gehoor gevonden bij de roep om een testsessie na het seizoen te organiseren in Abu Dhabi. De Italiaanse bandenfabrikant had bij die test de nieuwe ultrazachte band voor volgend jaar aan de tand willen voelen, maar er bestond geen unanieme steun voor het plan.

Het is deze week besproken bij de vergadering van de Strategy Group. McLaren was wel een voorstander, maar de overige teams zagen voornamelijk bezwaren. Zo hebben de meeste renstallen de terugvluchten voor na de Grand Prix in Abu Dhabi reeds geboekt en zou een test op Yas Marina Circuit gepaard gaan met hoge kosten.

Vanuit de teams kwam het voorstel om de nieuwe compound dan maar beschikbaar te stellen voor de eerste vrije training in Singapore of Abu Dhabi, maar daar zag Pirelli weer geen heil in. Een vrije training is volgens de bandenleverancier geen goede manier om banden te testen, aangezien de teams veelal met andere dingen bezig zijn.
