Silverstone ziet niets in voorstel voor tweedaags Grand Prix-weekend

Het idee van Williams-directeur Adam Parr om Grand Prix-weekenden in te korten tot twee dagen kan niet op goedkeuring van de circuitleiding van Silverstone rekenen. De vrije trainingen op vrijdag moeten wat de Engelse baan betreft in het schema blijven.

The Mirror citeert Silverstone-directeur Richard Phillips: “De vrijdag is belangrijk voor Silverstone. Dat verliezen zou het aantal bezoekers flink verminderen.” Silverstone-voorzitter Neil England voegde toe: “Een dag wegnemen zou gekkenwerk zijn. Vorig jaar hadden we 80.000 bezoekers op de vrijdag, waarom zou je dat willen vernietigen?”

    Ze moeten juist de weekenden verlengen, een paar keer per jaar, zodat er op de maandag, als de spullen er toch zijn, nog extra getest kan worden. Bijvoorbeeld met de nieuwe Pirelli banden...
    Of bijvoorbeeld de laatste 6 teams in het constructeurs kampioenschap de kans geven extra te testen. En de andere teams kunnen dan hun test-rijders laten rijden.
