Dakar update: Titelverdediger Nasser Al-Attiyah moet opgeven

Nasser Al-Attiyah zal zijn Dakar-titel niet meer verdedigen. De coureur uit Qatar heeft zich vandaag terug moeten trekken uit de rally na problemen met zijn Hummer, zo meldde de organisatie vanmiddag. Al-Attiyah lag na acht etappes op de zesde plaats in het klassement.

Al-Attiyah, die voor dit jaar overstapte naar Hummer en teamgenoot werd van Robby Gordon, kende deze Dakar-rally al veel problemen. Zijn achterstand op leider Stephane Peterhansel was na acht etappes al opgelopen tot drie kwartier. In eerste instantie gaf Al-Attiyah alleen de negende etappe op, maar volgens de organisatie zal hij helemaal niet meer in actie komen dit jaar.

    Jammer, hij zorgde toch wel voor veel show bij de auto\'s. Een categorie dit jaar waar toch weinig gebeurt. Gelukkig is er nog altijd Despres vs Coma bij de motoren. Alhoewel de ASO gister voor een schandalige bonificatie voor Depres zorgde.

    Jammer hij was mijn favoriet met die agressieve rijstijl. Maar dat kon niet lang goedgaan, helaas. Nu maar hopen dat Robbie Gordon kan strijden voor de overwinning.

      Hoewel ik de Hummer \'gaaf\' vind om in actie te zien. Zeer agressief en elke keer half door de lucht is dat ook net het geen dat ze opbreekt. En zeker Gordon, zoals Alonso al zegt. Die maakt straks gewoon weer een fout en is het einde verhaal of meer achterstand. Bij meer technische etappe\'s zal Peterhansel straks meer winst pakken. De Hummer is meer van \'gassss!\'
