Pirelli sluit nieuwe overeenkomsten af met GP2 en GP3

Pirelli heeft de weg geplaveid voor een nieuw contract als bandenleverancier voor de Formule 1. De Italiaanse bandenfabrikant heeft zich voor de komende jaren verbonden aan opstapklasses GP2 en GP3, en dat lijkt een voorbode voor een nieuwe overeenkomst met de koningsklasse van de autosport.

GP2- en GP3-baas Bruno Michel: "Ik ben heel blij dat we de samenwerking met Pirelli de komende seizoenen voortzetten. Onze relatie is sinds de introductie van de GP3 in 2010 altijd sterk en gezond geweest. Het was logisch dat ze vervolgens ook de GP2 van banden gingen voorzien, want het was vanaf het begin onze insteek om dezelfde bandenleverancier als de Formule 1 te gebruiken. Pirelli stelt zich coöperatief op en toont begrip voor wat wij nodig achten voor een competitieve serie."

Pirelli-motorsportbaas Paul Hembery: "Wij zijn verguld met deze nieuwe overeenkomsten om ook in de toekomst banden te leveren voor zowel de GP2 als de GP3. Deze klasses hebben zich bewezen als uitstekende ladder voor rijders met ambities om het hogerop te schoppen. Het is de perfecte training en we hebben al meerdere coureurs de route richting de Formule 1 zien bewandelen. Dat toont het belang van deze kampioenschappen aan."
