Huff en Thompson op pole voor races in Marokko

Rob Huff heeft zijn eerste pole position in de WTCC in drie jaar tijd gepakt. Achter Huff domineren ook de andere Honda's de eerste twee rijen. James Thompson start in de tweede race van pole position na in de kwalificatie de tiende tijd te hebben gereden. Vanwege de omgekeerde grid betekent dat automatisch pole voor de Brit in race twee.

Voor Huff was het al even geleden dat hij van de eerste plaats mocht starten: de laatste keer was in Macau 2012. Huff reed in de kwalificatie op het stratencircuit van Marrakech een tijd van 1:21:743. Norbert Michelisz start als tweede voor de derde Honda van Tiago Monteiro. Monteiro leek aanvankelijk pole te gaan pakken, maar verloor tijd in de laatste sector.

De wereldkampioen van 2014 en 2015, Jose Maria Lopez, start de race as vierde. De Argentijn was in de eerste sector het snelst, maar fouten in de middensector en de laatste sector kosten hem de snelste tijd. Nick Catsburg was de beste Nederlander en reed de vijfde tijd. Tom Coronel start de eerste race vanaf een zevende plaats. Thed Björk, Hugo Valente en James Thompson maken de top tien voor de eerste race vol.

    De Nederlanders zitten er goed bij. Hoop op een mooie klassering voor binden! Moet trouwens zeggen dat Nick Catsburg het erg goed doet bij Lada.
