In mijn vorige column schreef ik dat het sinds mijn kampioenschap in het Duits Formule 3 ontzettend druk was geworden. Ik had verwacht dat het inmiddels iets rustiger zou zijn, maar niets is minder waar. Ook de afgelopen drie weken is het nog heel erg druk geweest met testen en het praten met potentiele sponsoren om zo een stoeltje bij een topteam te bemachtigen in de F3 Euroseries, World Series by Renault of de GP2 Series.

Twee weken geleden testte ik op het circuit van Paul Ricard voor het eerst een GP2-wagen bij het team van BCN Competition. Deze test kreeg ik aangeboden door mijn kampioenschap in het Duits Formule 3. Ik had een goede kennismaking met de GP2-wagen en er zat heel erg veel kracht in de Renault-motor. Vervelend was dat de wagen de hele testdag veel overstuur kende en het team dit niet opgelost kreeg. Toch heb ik een positieve ervaring eraan over gehouden en wie weet wat het voor de toekomst brengt.

Vorige week heb ik eveneens op Paul Ricard getest maar toen voor Comtec in de Renault World Series. De test met Comtec stond al een tijd op de agenda en pakte heel erg goed uit. Het is een professioneel team en ze hebben veel ervaring, wat ook bleek tijdens de test. Ik kon de hele dag meestrijden in de top van het klassement en eindigde uiteindelijk op een goede tweede positie.

Het afgelopen weekend heb ik me voorbereid op de Formule 3-race in Macau, waar ik op dit moment ook ben. Samen met het team van HBR Motorsport zal ik deelnemen aan deze speciale race, met als teamgenoot de Portugees Rodolfo Avila die in Macau woont. Ter voorbereiding heb ik onder andere in Engeland in een simulator gereden over het circuit van Macau om enigszins de baan te leren kennen.

Het zal een waanzinnige ervaring worden op een smal circuit met heel veel bochten en een lang recht stuk van ruim 25 seconden volgas. Ik zal moeten zorgen voor een goede kwalificatie en geen crashes te hebben. Een goede eerste race betekent direct een betere startpositie voor de tweede en finalerace.

Na Macau zal ik nogmaals in de World Series gaan testen. Dit keer op 30 november in Valencia met Fortec Motorsport waardoor ik ben uitgenodigd!
