BMW dominant in eerste race op Oschersleben

Voormalig Formule 1-coureur Timo Glock heeft de eerste race van het DTM weekend in Oschersleben gewonnen. De coureur van BMW leidde de wedstrijd van start tot finish. Voor Glock was het zijn eerste zege sinds 2013 en bovendien zijn eerste podiumplaats van het seizoen. Achter Glock finishten Antonio Felix da Costa en Augusto Farfus ook op het podium voor BMW. Pascal Wehrlein nam de leiding in het kampioenschap weer over van Mattias Ekström.

Glock over zijn race: "Ik reed een sterke race en de auto voelde goed aan. Voor mij was duidelijk dat ik vanaf pole position een voorsprong moest op zien te bouwen. Mijn doel was om uit het DRS raamwerk te rijden en dat lukte me. Vanaf dat moment kon ik me concentreren op mijn eigen tempo. Ik ben erg blij voor mezelf en voor het team".

Voor Pascal Wehrlein werd het ondanks een vijfde plaats in de Mercedes een goede dag. Zijn concurrent Ekström scoorde namelijk geen punten. Achter Wehrlein finishten de BMW's van Marco Wittmann, Tom Blomqvist en Martin Tomczyk. Miguel Molina en Daniel Juncadella completeerden de top tien en pakten de laatste punten in de eerste race.

Bij de start ging het in de eerste bocht mis voor Nico Muller, Jamie Green en Robert Wickens. Naast genoemde rijders waren er diverse andere wagens betrokken bij het incident en werd besloten de Safety Car naar buiten te brengen. De coureurs werden door de pitstraat geleid om de marshalls de mogelijkheid te geven de brokstukken op te ruimen.

Bij de herstart in de vijfde ronde ging het wederom mis. De beschadigde motorkap vloog van de auto van Wickens en wederom kwam de Safety Car op baan. De race kwam in ronde zeven eindelijk op gang. De BMW-trein leidde na de herstart, terwijl Pascal Wehrlein onder druk kwam te staan van Marco Wittmann. Wehrlein meldde over de radio dat hij een probleem had met de stuurbekrachtiging, maar hield ondanks de druk toch stand.

Morgen wordt er verder geracet op Oschersleben. De tweede race wordt voorafgegaan door de tweede kwalificatie. De race zal vervolgens om 15:00 uur starten.

  Het wordt eens tijd voor een echte Nederlandse DTM site. Hier en daar wordt er wel iets geschreven, maar in mijn optiek is de verslaggeving zeer matig.
  Ik meld me graag aan voor redactionele stukken, ik volg de DTM al geruime tijd met zeer veel aandacht.
