Green wint tweede race en pakt tweede plaats kampioenschap

Jamie Green heeft de laatste DTM-race van het seizoen 2015 gewonnen. Met zijn vierde zege van het seizoen wist Green ook de tweede plaats in het kampioenschap veilig te stellen. De tweede race op de Hockenheimring werd gedomineerd door Audi, het volledige podium bestond uit Audi-coureurs.

Green startte als tweede en had een goede start. Dit in tegenstelling tot de polesitter, Gary Paffet. Paffet wist ondanks zijn matige start de leiding te behouden. Green wist Paffet uiteindelijk in de vierde ronde te verschalken met een klassieke uitremactie in de Spitzkehre chicane.

De voornaamste uitdager van Green gedurende de race was Matthias Ekström. Ekström viel bij de start terug tot achter de BMW van Maxime Martin, maar wist de Belg in de vijfde ronde te passeren. Twee ronden wist Ekström ook de tweede plaats te pakken van Garry Paffet. Ekström kwam uiteindelijk nog dichtbij Green in de slotfase, maar niet dicht genoeg om Green van zijn vierde seizoenszege te houden.

Op de derde plaats eindigde Edoardo Mortara. De Italiaan maakte een late pitstop, viel terug tot plek vijf maar wist op verse banden Timo Scheider en Paul di Resta nog te passeren in de slotfase. Di Resta was de beste Mercedes-coureur op plek vier, voor Scheider en Martin. Antonio Felix da Costa werd zevende, voor Bruno Spengler, Paffet en Tomczyk. Paffet verloor veel tijd bij zijn pitstop en kon daarna niet meer vechten om de ereplaatsen.

Voor Pascal Wehrlein verliep de race dramatisch. De kersverse kampioen startte in de achterhoede, werd geraakt in de hairpin door Nico Muller en finishte uiteindelijk als twintigste. Een ander slachtoffer van een incident was Adrian Tambay die uitviel na zijn stop. Tambay werd in de hairpin geraakt door een te enthousiaste Christian Vietoris. Ook scheidend kampioen Marco Wittmann wist de race niet te finishen. De BMW-coureur viel uit nadat het complete bodywork aan de voorkant van de auto vloog.
