Wittmann koerst soeverein naar winst in eerste race Nürburgring

BMW-coureur Marco Wittmann heeft een soevereine overwinning behaald in de eerste race van het DTM-weekend op de Nürburgring. Op het circuit in de Duitse Eiffel leidde de Duitser van start tot finish. Wittmann kwam met een voorsprong van iets meer dan zeven seconden over de finish, Tom Blomqvist werd tweede. Met zijn zege breidt Wittmann zijn leiding in het kampioenschap verder uit. Jamie Green was best of de rest met een derde plek in zijn Audi.

Achter de top drie finishte Edoardo Mortara als vierde, voor Timo Glock in zijn BMW. Paul di Resta was de beste Mercedes-coureur met een zesde plek. In het kampioenschap heeft Wittmann nu 35 punten voorsprong op Robert Wickens. Green en Mortara volgen op plekken drie en vier. Ondanks zijn grote voorsprong kan Wittmann nog niet op zijn lauweren rusten. Er zijn nog vijf races te verreden waarin 125 punten zijn te verdienen bij winst. Voor Wittmann was het zijn derde zege in 2016 en zijn achtste zege in de DTM tot dusver.

Morgen om 12:45 uur begint de kwalificatie voor de tweede race, de tweede race start om 15:10 uur.
