Mortara op pole voor openingsrace Hungaroring

Op de bochtige en smalle Hungaroring heeft Eduardo Mortara zich de beste uitgangspositie verworven voor de eerste race. De Italiaan zat er de hele sessie vooraan bij en moest alleen een aanval van Jamie Green.

Mortara stond vrijwel de hele kwalificatie bovenaan, maar met nog vijf minuten te gaan dook Green onder de tijd van Mortara. Even later bleek dat Mortara het beste voor het laatst had bewaard en dook hij met iets minder dan een tiende onder de snelste tijd van Green.

Audi kende een sterke sessie op de Hungaroring, met alle auto's in de top acht. Miguel Molina start namens Audi op de tweede rij samen met Mike Rockenfeller, Nico Muller start als vijfde. Timo Scheider en Mattias Ekstrom nemen de vierde rij in namens Audi.

BMW en Mercedes moeten dus toezien hoe Audi voorlopig de dienst uitmaakt in Hongarije. Rosenqvist was de beste Mercedes op plek negen, terwijl Marco Wittmann nog net in de top tien wist te komen met de BMW. Robert Wickens kende een dramatische kwalificatie en start in zijn Mercedes van de achttiende plek. De eerste race begint vanmiddag om 15:00 uur.
