Mortara bewijst zichzelf goede dienst in titelstrijd met zege in race een Hungaroring

Edoardo Mortara heeft zijn pole position voor de eerste race omgezet in een klinkende overwinning. Het is de vierde zege van de Italiaanse Audi-coureur dit seizoen en het brengt Mortara weer terug in de titelstrijd. De hele top zes bestond uit coureurs van Audi, Green en Molina finishten achter Mortara als tweede en derde.

Bij de start was Mortara als beste weg, terwijl Green zijn tweede plaats ten opzichte van Molina wist te verdedigen. Green wist in het vervolg van de race aan te haken bij Mortara. Ondanks het kleine gat wist Green geen serieuze aanval te plaatsen en dus stevende Mortara vrij eenvoudig af op de zege.

Achter de top drie behaalde Mike Rockenfeller zijn beste resultaat met een vierde plaats. Nico Muller werd vijfde, na die plaats te hebben verloren bij de start aan merkgenoot Adrian Tambay. Marco Wittmann, leider in het kampioenschap, deed aan schadebeperking en bracht zijn BMW als zevende binnen. Door de zege van Mortara is het gat is de voorsprong van Wittmann in het kampioenschap geslonken van 33 naar 14 punten.

Na vandaag zijn er nog drie races te gaan. Morgen wordt de tweede race op de Hungaroring verreden, daarna zijn er nog twee races op de Hockenheim.

Het enige hoogtepuntje was de wereldstart van Wittmann met de uitremactie op Ekstrom. Daarna gebeurde er helemaal niets meer, oersaaie race!
