Mortara en Wittmann vliegen elkaar in de haren bij start, Ekström wint

Na een dominante zege gisteren was Edoardo Mortara helemaal terug in de titelstrijd. Het gat met concurrent Marco Wittmann was voor de start van de tweede race geslonken naar veertien punten. Mortara startte ook de tweede race van pole, met Wittmann dus weer achter zich. Voor Ekström was het zijn eerste zege in meer dan een jaar tijd.

Bij de start pakte Mattias Ekström meteen de leiding nadat zijn merkgenoot Mortara vanaf pole position teveel wielspin had en slecht wegkwam. Wittmann rook zijn kans en probeerde Mortara te passeren, maar werd op het gras gedrukt. In een poging terug op het circuit te komen miste Wittmann Jamie Green en werd hij in een slide gedrukt door Mortara.

Wittmann wist echter te overleven, terwijl Mortara de tweede plek terug wist te pakken. Mortara liep echter ook een lekke band op en viel ver terug om uiteindelijk met nog drie ronden te gaan op te geven. Ondanks zijn lekke band wist Mortara in de ronde naar de pits de concurrenten op te houden, maar de top drie met Ekström, Tambay en Juncadella in de top drie. Wittmann had zich ondertussen opgewerkt naar een vierde positie.

Adrian Tambay slaagde er via de stops in om het gat naar Ekström te dichten, maar Ekström wist een aanval af te slaan. Voor Ekström zit het DTM-seizoen er ook meteen op, aangezien de Zweed tijdens de seizoensfinale op de Hockenheimring afwezig is vanwege verplichtingen in de rallycross.

Juncadella was de grootste winnaar bij de start: de Spanjaard startte als elfde en finishte als derde en pakte zo zijn eerste podiumplaats in de DTM. Wittmann leek aanvankelijk als vijfde te eindigen, maar wist uiteindelijk nog vierde te worden door Antonio Felix da Costa vlak voor de finish te passeren.

Dankzij een vierde plaats en een uitvalbeurt van Mortara heeft Wittmann nu een voorsprong van 26 punten in het kampioenschap. De seizoensfinale is in het weekend van 16 oktober. Plaats van handeling is de Hockenheimring, de plek waar het seizoen ook begon.

Was ind niet zo een slimme actie van.mortara. maar had wel.pech met de lekke band. Ik vond het vreemd dat die rechts voor lek had .
