Green wint tweede race Lausitzring

Na een weinig succesvolle race gisteren, wist Jamie Green op zondag zijn weekend op de Lausitzring in een klap goed te maken. De Brit reed soeverein naar de zege en had aan de finish een voorsprong van 6,2 seconden op Matias Ekström. Ekstrom baarde opzien door al in de eerste ronde binnen te komen. Die agressieve strategie zorgde ervoor dat de Zweed zijn achtste startplaats kon omzetten in een podiumplaats. Robert Wickens completeerde het podium.

Door zijn zege is Green opgerukt naar de tweede plaats in het kampioenschap, met zestien punten achterstand op lijstaanvoerder Lucas Auer. Auer domineerde de race van zaterdag, maar kwam in de tweede race niet in het stuk voor. De Oostenrijker startte slechts als vijftiende en kwam als tiende aan de finish.

Los van Ekström kwam ook Mike Rockenfeller al na een ronde binnen voor een stop. Rockenfeller finishte door deze tactiek als vijfde, voor Nico Müller en Rene Rast. Rast behaalde in de race van zaterdag zijn eerste podium van het jaar. Voor BMW was het een matige zondag in de Lausitz: alleen Maxime Martin en Marco Wittmann scoorden punten dankzij een achtste en negende plaats.

De derde ronde van het kampioenschap voert het DTM-circus naar de Hungaroring in Budapest. Het is de eerste buitenlandse race van het seizoen. De heren coureurs doen Budapest aan in het weekend van 16 tot en 18 juni.
