Robin Frijns betreurt naderend vertrek van Audi

Het nieuws dat Audi de DTM na dit jaar verlaat kwam ook voor coureur Robin Frijns aardig uit de lucht vallen. De Nederlander kreeg net als de rest van de wereld gisteren te horen dat de Duitse autofabrikant na 2020 uit de toerwagenserie stapt. Een hard gelag voor Frijns, die vorig jaar op de vijfde plek eindigde in het kampioenschap na een dertiende plaats in zijn debuutseizoen 2018.

"Dit is droevig nieuws", reageert Robin Frijns op het naderende DTM-afscheid van Audi. "2020 zal het laatste jaar van Audi in de DTM zijn. Dit wordt mijn derde seizoen in deze geweldige serie. Ik heb er vanaf het begin van genoten. Hopelijk kunnen we er een memorabel laatste jaar voor Audi van maken en eruit gaan met een hoogtepunt!"

Robin Frijns is al jarenlang aan het merk Audi verbonden, onder meer in de Blancpain Series (dat tegenwoordig als GT World Challenge door het leven gaat, red.). De Nederlander is tevens actief in de Formule E, voor het team van Envision Virgin Racing.
