Merhi, Wickens en Vietoris onder de vleugels van Schumacher

Mercedes heeft grootse plannen met Roberto Merhi (foto), Robert Wickens en Christian Vietoris in de DTM. Het drietal jongelingen krijgt een Mercedes C-Coupé tot zijn beschikking voor 2012 en de Duitse autofabrikant heeft een aantal speciale mentoren ingeschakeld. Michael Schumacher, Heinz-Harald Frentzen en Karl Wendlinger zullen Merhi, Wickens en Vietoris onder hun vleugels nemen.

Schumacher: Ik herinner mijn eerste stappen in de autosport nog goed, ik stak enorm veel op van mijn tijd in de opleiding van Mercedes-Benz, zowel op als naast de baan. Het leerde me samenwerken met engineers en op een professionele manier omgaan met de media. Ik ben benieuwd hoe Roberto, Robert en Christian zich gaan ontwikkelen. Ik heb ze in Barcelona ontmoet en meteen een paar tips uit eigen ervaring gegeven. Mercedes-Benz hecht veel waarde aan de ontwikkeling van de volgende generatie coureurs, daar zijn veel voorbeelden van. Onderdeel uitmaken van de opleiding is echt iets om trots op te zijn. Ik zal de prestaties van dit trio nauwlettend volgen en ik wens ze veel succes.
