Viscaal in de wolken met podium

Bent Viscaal debuteerde zondagmiddag in de Europese Le Mans Series met een sensationele tweede plaats. Samen met Sophia Floersch stuurde de 22-jarige Alberger de Algarve Pro Racing-bolide naar het podium in de vier uur durende wedstrijd op het circuit van Paul Ricard. Viscaal blikte terug op deze bijzondere prestatie.

"Ik ben heel erg blij met onze podiumfinish”, laat Viscaal vanuit Zuid-Frankrijk optekenen. “Eerlijk gezegd had ik eigenlijk geen idee waar ik rondreed! Ik had geen radiocommunicatie gedurende de race, dus ik moest het doen met de pitsignalen. Bij de woorden 'Box' en 'Fuel' wist ik gelukkig exact wat de opdracht inhield", grinnikt de Tukker.

"Onze racesnelheid was bijzonder goed, daar ben ik erg tevreden mee. Natuurlijk maakt één zwaluw nog geen zomer, maar toch is het veelbelovend voor wat betreft de rest van dit zes races tellende ELMS-seizoen. Het weekend was al met al een geweldige ervaring en ik ben blij om dit met Algarve Pro Racing mee te mogen maken. Ik ben blij met het team en volgens mij is het team ook blij met mij.”

“Sophia heeft ook fantastisch gereden", prijst Viscaal zijn Duitse teamgenote. "Haar start was erg sterk. Dat zij in de eerste ronden gelijk vier concurrenten inhaalde, heeft ons zeker een slok op een borrel gescheeld. Deze prachtige tweede plaats smaakt naar meer. Ik kan niet wachten om weer achter het stuur te kruipen, we gaan er vol tegenaan op Imola!", besluit de Nederlander strijdvaardig.

De volgende race in San Marino is in het weekend van 15 mei.
