Viscaal rijdt sterke inhaalrace: "Meer kon ik niet doen"

Bent Viscaal kwam afgelopen weekend in actie tijdens de European Le Mans Series. De Nederlandse coureur viel voor de tweede keer in bij het team van Algarve Pro Racing. Hij reed een sterke inhaalrace, maar dat resulteerde uiteindelijk in de zesde plaats. Viscaal liet in ieder geval weer zien wat hij in zijn mars heeft.

Viscaal is normaal gesproken actief in het WEC, maar dit weekend viel hij voor de tweede keer in bij het ELMS-team van Algarve Pro Racing. Samen met zijn teamgenoten Tristan Vautier en Fred Poordad ging hij op jacht naar een goed resultaat in de vier uur van Spa-Francorchamps. Amateurcoureur Poordad reed voorzichtig waardoor de equipe op de laatste plaats reed toen Viscaal het stuur overnam.

Inhaalacties

Viscaal reed een sterke inhaalrace en stuurde de wagen naar de leidende positie omdat het team de auto op de baan hield tijdens een neutralisatie. Uiteindelijk werd het team zesde. Viscaal spreekt zich uit in zijn terugblik: "Meer kon ik vandaag niet doen. Ik heb geracet alsof mijn leven ervan afhing. Ik heb inhaalacties links en rechts geplaats in de hoop om ons verder naar voren te brengen. Het team besloot de auto tijdens de neutralisatie buiten te houden en dat kostte ons een betere klassering."

Dankbaar

Viscaal rijdt later dit jaar nog de seizoensfinale van het WEC in Bahrein. Hij was blij dat hij afgelopen weekend in actie mocht komen tijdens de ELMS-race op Spa: "Ik ben dankbaar, want het was immers helemaal niet de bedoeling dat ik deze race überhaupt zou rijden. Ik wil teambaas Stewart Cox en Algarve Pro Racing bedanken voor hun geloof ik mij en ik dank Fred en Tristan voor de fijne samenwerking. Ik zou graag in de toekomst nog een keer een auto met hen willen delen."
