Le Mans: Ferrari zet deur voor LMP1-programma open

Ferrari acht het niet ondenkbaar dat het in de nabije toekomst een LMP1-project voor het World Endurance Championship opstart. Antonello Coletta overziet het sportieve programma van de Scuderia buiten de Formule 1. Hij sluit niks uit. De nieuwe 1.6 liter V6 turbo Formule 1-motor zou dan ook als basis voor de LMP1-bolide dienen.

Coletta vertrouwde Autosport toe: "Het is normaal voor een instantie als Ferrari om alle mogelijkheden te verkennen en af te tasten. Het is belangrijk voor ons om te weten wat de toekomst eventueel in petto zou kunnen hebben. Op dit moment zijn we volledig geconcentreerd op de Formule 1, het is niet aannemelijk dat we daarnaast nog iets gaan doen. Dat betekent dat we niet kunnen zeggen dat Ferrari een LMP1-programma begint, maar we kunnen ook niet zeggen dat Ferrari zich niet in een LMP1-project stort. We kunnen ook niet zeggen wat ons standpunt voor 2015, 2016 of daarna is. Vast staat wel dat we het alleen doen als we de hele auto in eigen beheer kunnen bouwen."
