Sam Bird maakt eerste Formule 1-meters voor Williams

Sam Bird heeft in het diepste geheim gedurende de afgelopen twee weken meerdere aerodynamische tests voor het team van Williams uitgevoerd. De 20-jarige Engelse Formule 3-coureur reed op vliegveld van Kemble in Gloucestershire met de FW29 voor het eerst met een Formule 1-bolide. Bird reed dit seizoen voor Carlin Motorsport in het Britse Formule 3-kampioenschap en eindigde daarin als vierde.

De afgelopen twee weken waren echt geweldig, meldt de jonge Engelsman. Ik wil Frank Williams (Williams-teambaas, red.) en het hele team bedanken voor deze prachtkans om ervaring op te doen. Ik heb ontzettend veel geleerd in de laatste veertien dagen en ik weet zeker dat dit later in mijn carrière nog van pas zal komen.
