Rodolfo Gonzalez benaderd voor testrol bij Pirelli

Rodolfo Gonzalez heeft een aanbod voor de positie van testcoureur bij bandenleverancier Pirelli op zak. Dat onthulde de Venezolaan in El Universal. Hij gaat voorlopig echter niet op het aanbod in, hij wil eerst de markt afstruinen voor eventuele opties om ergens te racen.

Gonzalez: "Ik heb een aantrekkelijk aanbod van Pirelli om volgend jaar te testen in beraad. Eerst verken ik mijn andere mogelijkheden en gelukkig hoef ik pas in februari, maart een beslissing te nemen. Mijn voorkeur gaat uit naar een langer verblijf in de Formule 1. Over twee jaar ben ik waarschijnlijk bereid om mijn blik te verruimen naar andere series in Amerika en Europa, maar op dit moment wacht ik mijn kansen af."

Gonzalez staat niet te boek als het grootste talent in de paddock en dankt zijn aanwezigheid in de Formule 1 voornamelijk aan zijn sponsorgeld. Toch doet Marussia-teambaas John Booth een goed woordje voor hem. "Rodolfo hoeft zich niet meer te bewijzen. Misschien ontbeert hij nog wat consistentie, maar hij is een coureur die weet wat hij doet. Hij heeft ons enorm geholpen."
