Ferrari doet alles om koelingsproblemen te vermijden

Het team van Ferrari legt de komende weken de nadruk op de koeling in de nieuwe bolide voor 2014. Hoofdengineer Pat Fry buigt zich al langer over dat vraagstuk en benadrukt het belang van een goede koeling voor de nieuwe V6 turbo plus de energie hergebruikende systemen. "Je kan dit jaar beter besteden aan de ontwikkeling van de auto dan aan het oplossen van koelingsproblemen."

Fry vervolgt: "Als je aan het begin van het jaar ontdekt dat je de plank mis hebt geslagen met de koeling, dan moet je veel middelen aanwenden om de radiatoren, het bodywork en nog veel meer te wijzigen. Dat is me bij Ferrari eens overkomen en bij McLaren ook al, dan verspil je maanden om het te repareren. De veranderingen voor 2014 zijn drastisch. Daarin schuilen mogelijkheden, maar je kan het ook flink verpesten. Hopelijk hebben wij het goed voor elkaar, maar velen zullen zich eind januari achter de oren krabben."

"De koeling is sowieso een uitdaging door de hoeveelheid koeling die de wagens voor 2014 nodig hebben. Om dat allemaal in een zo compact mogelijk pakket te integreren is een enorme opgave. Ik vind dat wel interessant en ik voorzie grote verschillen in het uiterlijk van de diverse auto's. Sommigen krijgen het nog druk, denk ik."
