Vettel en Sutil leggen keuze voor vast startnummer uit

Red Bull Racing-coureur Sebastian Vettel verschijnt komend seizoen als wereldkampioen gewoon met startnummer 1 op de baan. Mocht hij de titel een keer niet winnen, dan is 5 voortaan zijn vaste startnummer. Aan Sport Bild legde hij uit waarom dat nummer.

Vettel: "Ik heb dit nummer gekozen omdat ik in 2001 succesvol in de karting was met startnummer 5. Bovendien won ik in 2010 mijn eerste wereldtitel in de Formule 1 met startnummer 5. In het verleden hebben andere rijders ook het kampioenschap gewonnen met 5, zoals Michael Schumacher en Nigel Mansell."

Sauber-coureur Adrian Sutil koos voor het hoogst mogelijke startnummer, namelijk 99. "De verklaring daarvoor is vrij simpel. In mijn leven moet alles het maximum zijn, dus ook mijn vaste startnummer."
