Pilbeam verlaat Lotus en verhuist naar McLaren

Engineer Ciaron Pilbeam is de volgende die het team van Lotus de rug toekeert. De Daily Mail bericht dat hij bij McLaren aan de slag gaat als hoofdengineer. Pilbeam was slechts één jaar werkzaam voor Lotus. Hij fungeerde als race-engineer voor Kimi Raikkonen.

Eerder was hij in dezelfde rol werkzaam voor Mark Webber bij Red Bull Racing. Het vertrek van Pilbeam maakt onderdeel uit van een zorgwekkende trend bij Lotus, waar het ene na het andere kopstuk zijn heil ergens anders zoekt. James Allison tekende bij Ferrari, net als Kimi Raikkonen, en zelfs Williams lokte al engineers weg bij Lotus.

Bij McLaren is juist de tegenovergestelde ontwikkeling gaande om af te rekenen met het slechte seizoen 2013. Van aerodynamicaspecialist Peter Prodromou en engineer Matt Morris was al bekend dat ze de gelederen in Woking komen versterken. Daar kan Pilbeam aan toegevoegd worden.
