De wegen van McLaren en hoofd aerodynamica Marcin Budkowski scheiden per direct. Een verschil van mening over de te volgen route ligt ten grondslag aan de breuk. Aerodynamicaspecialist Doug McKiernan neemt de taken van Budkowski over.

Een woordvoerder van McLaren deelde aan Autosport mede: "Marcin en McLaren Racing hebben uiteenlopende standpunten over de strategische plannen met betrekking tot de aerodynamische afdeling en daarop hebben we besloten om uit elkaar te gaan. We wensen hem het beste voor de toekomst en bedanken hem voor zijn waardevolle bijdrage in de afgelopen zes jaar."
