De nieuwe regels voor de Formule 1 hebben de engineers weer voor een uitdaging gesteld. Dat is het grote positieve punt van de ingrijpende reglementswijzigingen, betoogt Paddy Lowe van Mercedes. "We vechten op elk front om de uitdagingen met betrekking tot de techniek en duurzaamheid het hoofd te bieden. Dat is precies waar het in de Formule 1 om zou moeten gaan, aanpassen en uitrekken van innovatieve technologieën op een zo agressief en ambitieus mogelijke manier."

Lowe vervolgt: "Het team heeft fantastisch werk geleverd op elk aspect van dit project. We hebben onze interne doelstellingen gehaald en onze richtlijnen gevolgd. De auto is een elegante reactie op de nieuwe regels, maar ook een agressief ontwerp en zoals wel vaker gaat de schoonheid veel verder dan het uiterlijk. De onderhuidse engineering is extreem innovatief en intelligent. Ik ben zeer trots op wat we als groep hebben geproduceerd, maar dit is natuurlijk pas het begin."
