Lotus benadert Quesnel voor positie van teambaas

Olivier Quesnel is opeens de favoriet voor de functie van teambaas bij Lotus. Dat melden L'Equipe en RMC. De kandidatuur van Martin Whitmarsh is gekoppeld aan de gesprekken met Sony over sponsoring en die onderhandelingen lijken gestaakt. Daardoor zijn de kansen van Whitmarsh ook aanzienlijk geslonken.

Quesnel is de voormalige baas van de WRC-programma's van Citroën en Peugeot. Gerard Lopez van Lotus-eigenaar Genii Capital bevestigde tegenover RMC dat Quesnel op de shortlist staat. Lotus zou de Fransman zelfs al een contractvoorstel gedaan hebben. Quesnel is al 64 jaar en heeft een goede band met Jean Todt, voorzitter van de internationale autosportbond FIA.

Lotus voerde vrijdag de shakedown uit met de E22. Pastor Maldonado kroop in de cockpit voor de eerste rit met de nieuwe auto. De Britse renstal gaf geen details prijs over de filmdag in Jerez, maar ze zouden op de eerste dag slechts één rondje voltooid hebben. Op zaterdag zou Lotus bijna honderd kilometer afgelegd hebben, vernam Craig Scarborough.
