Williams stelt teleur met zestiende en laatste startpositie

Vorige race pakte Rosberg nog een mooie podiumpositie voor het team van Williams, dat zit er morgen naar alle waarschijnlijkheid niet in. Volgens de jonge Duitser met Finse roots is de slechte prestatie van de Williams geheel te wijten aan de herasfaltering van het circuit.

Rosberg kwalificeerde zich slechts als zestiende voor de Grand Prix van Maleisië, ook Nakajima kon niet toveren met een achttiende startpositie. Rosberg zei tegen de aanwezige pers geschrokken te zijn van de huidige vorm. De Williams-coureur: Ik kan simpelweg niet geloven hoe het vandaag is gegaan. Ik kom hier met een podiumfinish in mijn broekzak en eindig hier als zestiende, terwijl ik mijn laatste ronde als goed beoordeelde. Echt een drama. Over de verklaring van de slechte prestatie van Williams in Maleisie, zegt de zoon van legende Keke Rosberg het volgende: Onze bolide lijkt het asfalt hier op Sepang niet te liggen, het is te glad. Onze banden werken er gewoon niet goed op, ik gleed overal weg. Het zal morgen absoluut lastig worden, maar onze auto is volgens mij veel beter in de regen. Wat regen kan ons dus morgen helpen.

Vorig jaar kwalificeerde Rosberg zich in zijn Williams nog als zesde voor de Grand Prix, maar eindigde toen niet in de punten.

Teamgenoot Kazuki Nakajima zal morgen vanaf de allerlaatste plaats starten gezien zijn straf die hij vorige week opliep door Kubica te elimineren. De Japanner: Het was een erg lastige kwalificatie, toen ik een fout maakte wist ik dat het einde oefening was. Ik kwam niet in aanmerking voor de tweede kwalificatiesessie. Wat zeker is dat ik morgen door de straf achteraan sta, ik moet een solide race rijden en gewoon finishen.
