Onweer en regen verwacht in Maleisië

De Grand Prix van Maleisië zal onder een bewolkte hemel van start gaan, maar waarschijnlijk zal er nog tijdens de race regen vallen. Het is zwaar bewolkt op de startgrid, ruim een kwartier voor de start van de race.

Diverse specialisten melden de Formule 1-teams dat er onweer en regen kan worden verwacht na 16.00 uur in Maleisië, dat is nog tijdens de race. Het zou een spannende slotfase kunnen worden, waarbij de regen uiteraard een grote rol gaat spelen, mocht het zover komen.

In 2001 was het tijdens deze Grand Prix erg nat. Het was wellicht de meest interessante race ooit op het Sepang-circuit nabij Kuala Lumpur. Jos Verstappen reed er volgens velen zijn beste race ooit. Nadat hij een superstart had gemaakt op een droog circuit, brak de hemel open. Verstappen vocht met topcoureurs als Michael Schumacher, Mika Hakkinen, Rubens Barrichello en Heinz-Harald Frentzen om de podiumposities in de race. Verstappen pakte echter de zevende positie, toen nog buiten de punten.

Regen kan de strategie van alle Formule 1-teams geheel in het water gooien. Of het daadwerkelijk zo ver zal komen zullen we waarschijnlijk merken na een uur racen in Maleisië.
