Ross Brawn: "Prioriteiten van Honda liggen bij 2009"

Alle aandacht van het team van Honda blijft bij het seizoen 2009. Die boodschap komt van teambaas Ross Brawn. De nieuwe RA108 heeft zich in zijn eerste twee races goed gehouden, maar dat leidt er niet toe dat de Japanse renstal de focus verlegt naar dit seizoen. Brawn: Wij zijn ons bewust van wat we voor 2009 moeten doen, dan ligt er namelijk een grote kans voor ons.

Het voormalig strategische brein van Ferrari over de tekortkomingen van de huidige auto: Je kan op het circuit duidelijk zien dat de rijkwaliteit nog niet top is. De auto gaat niet goed over hobbels, dus daar moeten we aan werken. Aerodynamisch gezien gaan we goed vooruit. Het chassis mag nog wel wat beter, maar iedereen staat open voor nieuwe ideeën. Ik heb nog een paar races nodig om precies te weten waar we staan, maar het is al veel beter dan tijdens de wintertests. En de toekomst ziet er veelbelovend uit.

Honda werkt nu al aan die toekomst. Brawn: Het programma voor 2009 is al begonnen. We stoppen er ook steeds meer middelen in. We hebben nog geen problemen ondervonden met het werken aan twee autos tegelijk, maar dat zal over een tijdje wel komen. Dan moeten we een keuze maken en die zal waarschijnlijk in het voordeel van 2009 uitvallen. Daar ligt de toekomst en bovendien zijn we beperkt in wat we met de huidige auto kunnen doen.
