Rentree Grand Prix van Amerika afhankelijk van sponsorcontract

De Indianapolis Motor Speedway hoopt volgend jaar alweer de Grand Prix van Amerika te mogen organiseren. Of dat ook doorgaat is afhankelijk van de interesse van potentiële sponsors. Het circuit wil de Formule 1 alleen terug als het financieel verantwoord is.

Circuitdirecteur Tony George: Alles hangt af van het vinden van de juiste sponsors. We moeten voldoende financiële steun krijgen als we de Grand Prix terug willen halen. Zonder kapitaalkrachtige partners beginnen we er niet aan. We zijn met meerdere partijen in gesprek. We zouden in 2009 al op de Formule 1-kalender kunnen terugkeren, maar we stappen alleen naar Bernie Ecclestone als we ook echt iets te bieden hebben.

Dit jaar reist het Formule 1-circus voor het eerst sinds 2000 niet af naar Indianapolis.
