Kroonprins wil Mosley niet in Bahrein

Sjeik Salman Bin Hamad Al-Khalifa, kroonprins van Bahrein, heeft in een oproep gedaan aan de in opspraak geraakte FIA-baas Max Mosley. De kroonprins heeft Mosley gevraagd niet naar Bahrein te komen. Na onthullingen over een mogelijk seksschandaal in de Engelse tabloid News of the World zou diens aanwezigheid ongepast zijn.

Opvallend genoeg meldde een woordvoerder van de FIA dat Mosley niet zou vertrekken vanuit Londen wegens juridische perikelen. De Engelse krant The Times zegt echter een brief te hebben onderschept waarin kroonprins Al-Khalifa Mosley oproept niet naar zijn land af te reizen. Op deze manier hoopt de prins alle aandacht te kunnen concentreren op het racen.

De brief van de kroonprins meldt: Gezien de recente beschuldigingen zou ik u willen vragen om uw geplande reis naar Bahrein te heroverwegen. Hierbij hoop ik u te betrekken bij de gedachten zoals die leven in Bahrein en haar bevolking.

Om de race tot een groot succes te maken, is het voor Bahrein, de Formule 1 en de toeschouwers van groot belang om de focus op het racen te houden. Het spijt me zeer u te moeten vragen om, gezien de omstandigheden, af te zien van aanwezigheid bij deze Grand Prix, zo staat in de brief te lezen.
