Eerste Grand Prix van Abu Dhabi in oktober 2009

De organisatie van de Grand Prix van Abu Dhabi heeft te horen gekregen dat hun race volgend jaar in oktober plaats zal vinden, al is nog niet duidelijk op welke datum precies en of de race de afsluiting van het seizoen wordt. Abu Dhabi werkt momenteel hard aan het circuit van Yas Island en debuteert volgend jaar op de Formule 1-kalender.

De baan is ontworpen door de bekende ontwerper Hermann Tilke, ook verantwoordelijk voor onder andere de circuits van Bahrein, Istanbul en Sepang. Recentelijk heeft de organisatie ook Phillipe Gurdjian aangesteld om ervoor te zorgen dat het circuit op tijd klaar is. Gurdjian hielp in het verleden mee bij de renovatie van het testcircuit van Paul Ricard en bij het gereedmaken van het circuit van Bahrein voor de eerste Grand Prix in 2004.
