FIA ontvouwt plannen voor introductie KERS

De internationale autosportbond FIA heeft de plannen en het tijdschema voor de introductie en de ontwikkeling van KERS (Kinetic Energy Recovery Systems) aan de teams bekend gemaakt. FIA-voorzitter Max Mosley schrijft aan de renstallen dat het vanaf volgend jaar stapsgewijs wordt toegestaan dat coureurs steeds meer vrijgekomen energie mogen hergebruiken.

In het voorstel van Mosley mogen de teams in 2009 60kW energie aan één as onttrekken, waardoor de coureurs per ronde zon 400kJ aan extra energie kunnen gebruiken door middel van een boost-knop. De teams willen dat die limieten in 2011 verdubbeld zijn en dat het vanaf 2013 toegestaan wordt om aan beide assen energie te ontrekken en dan om te zetten naar 1,6MJ aan energie voor de boost-knop.

Mosley gaf ook aan dat de teams vrij zijn om energie uit andere hittebronnen te halen. Dat wordt niet verplicht, maar de opgevangen energie mag wel hergebruikt worden voor een tijdelijke boost. De FIA maakt echter duidelijk dat deze ideeën het startpunt van de discussie moeten zijn en dat de plannen verder uitgewerkt zullen worden in samenwerking met de teams om in juni een betere versie aan de World Motor Sport Council te overleggen.
